aloha poets,
Tropical colors and design inspire today. Enjoy!

Ocean Puzzle

Simplicity questions open ocean algal bloom
Nurturing nitrates arrive from where or from whom?
To grow at that rate in some kind of zoom
Designates no disgruntled signature of doom

The lighted zone goes to 1000 feet down
Nitrates on the seabed mighty waves will pound
Water column profiles to show some disconnect
Between warm sunshine and ocean floor wreck

Wide open oceans, an expanse in demand
Yet nitrate concentrations lay low in the sand
Happy alga bloom floats up in surface sunshine
So how in the world on nitrates do they dine?

The answer lies in the vast ocean eddy swirl
Global warming has yet to halt currents that curl
Below the surface ocean lives in spite of the heat
For now nitrates still rise for floating alga to eat

Be known from where comes the oxygen we breath
It comes from the floating phytoplankton of the seas
To silence the happy blooms algae offer to please
Is to silence survival itself, down to its knees
